Works Extent
Glyntown Bridge, located on the L2998 East Cliff Road, Riverstown, Glanmire, approximately 9km east of Cork City, is an existing three span masonry arch bridge.
Scope of Works
- Repair and repoint damaged sections of masonry spandrels, head walls, wing walls, abutments and arch barrels in accordance with conservation best practice.
- The existing southeast cutwater to be taken down to good stone and rebuilt. If suitable foundation stone is not located, a new reinforced concrete footing will need to be installed to support the cutwater.
- Repair and rebuild both masonry parapets with new masonry to match existing masonry structure.
Objectives
The objectives of the works are:
- Restore the overall structure integrity of the bridge and retain its heritage and aesthetics.
- Improve road user safety by raising parapets height to current safety standards.
Timeline
Start: Construction is due to start on 18th July 2024.
Finish: Project is expected to be completed by September 2024.
