The 10th Rainbow Cities Network (RCN)-Exhibition for 2025 is on the topic of "Queer Sports".

 A few comments about the photo itself:

• Just note that the exhibition is a piece of art, so the more "special" the photo is, the better it is.
• Diversity: Remember, the more diverse all our photos are, the more interesting the exhibition gets.
• It's great to have artificial photos, to have photo-documents, to have photos in colour, to have photos in black & white, portraits of one person, photos with many people on them, photos of projects, of buildings, serious ones, funny ones, etc. etc.
• SPECIAL TIP: Take a look at last years' exhibitions and see which photos you do like best, as this might give you some good ideas for the photo you want to contribute this year ;-)

Conditions:

• All Rainbow Cities may show the exhibition in real life and online beginning with May, 17, and for an unlimited period of time and for free.
• Showing the exhibition means showing the whole exhibition, you may not leave anything out.
• The exhibition will include: 1 poster: preamble of the Board, 1 poster: preamble of the curator, xx posters: one photo, title, name and photo-text of each city, 1 final poster: bibliography (saying for example: No. 1: Paris "(Title of photo)" by (name of photographer), No. 2 ...)
• By sending in a photo you confirm that you have all the rights on this photo and the text and that the photographer and all the people shown on that photo have given you the rights to get the photo published by all RCN-Cities in the described way.
• To be able to do so, all Rainbow Cities will get the complete exhibition in form of a computer-file as soon as possible. This file may be reproduced locally however you like, but on your own costs of course.
• By sending in a photo you agree on these terms.

Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week 2024

May 12th - 19th 2024

Theme: A Safe City For All

Cork marks May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) annually by organising an LGBTI+ Awareness Week. In a world grown increasingly intolerant and threatening, the importance of marking IDAHOBIT is essential. The Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week 2024 theme is ‘A Safe City For All’ which will be explored at various events throughout the week. This theme is a call for unity: only through solidarity for each other will we create a world without injustice, where no one is left behind.

We invite you to attend an event, come together to challenge homophobia, lesbophobia, transphobia, and biphobia and to demonstrate the solidarity of the people of Cork with LGBTI+ communities, here and globally.

There are a range of free events running throughout the week from our launch on Monday, flag raisings across the City and County on Tuesday, our annual seminar on Wednesday, culminating in our Rainbow Picnic on Sunday in Fitzgerald Park, and many more.

Cork City Council's Commitment to LGBTI+ Inclusion

Cork City has pursued LGBTI+ inclusion for many years, drawing in the strong vibrant LGBTI+ community in Cork.

Cork City Council is committed to supporting and promoting LGBTI+ equality in Cork city. 

Since 2011, Cork City Council, through its Community Section and Cork City Inter-Agency Group organises Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week to coincide with international IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia). The purpose of the week to bring Cork City: it’s Council, public service agencies and communities together. LGBTI+ Awareness Week has become an annual event with increasing support and involvement from public service agencies and city communities. Cork City Council also proudly supports Cork Pride. 

Did you know?

Cork City Council was the first city and public building to officially fly the Rainbow Flag; raised in Cork City by the Lord Mayor in 2014. Cork City is the first and only city on the island of Ireland to have become a member of the International Rainbow Cities Network, who pledge to protect and enhance LGBTI+ rights and inclusion. And in June 2022, Cork installed two Rainbow Crossings in the heart of the city, on Patrick’s street. The design is unique to Cork, incorporating as it does both the 6 bands of the traditional Rainbow Flag and also the progressive chevron representing people of colour , transgender and intersex identities.

Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Damian Boylan welcomed these colourful and inclusive additions to the city’s public realm saying “These Crossings are a powerful and progressive symbol of the City’s support for and collaboration with Cork’s LGBTI+ Communities, we’re delighted that our Rainbow City now has some Rainbow Crossings. Commissioned jointly by the Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival and Cork’s LGBTI+ Inter-Agency Group , with the active support of Cork City Council  the  Rainbow Crossings are a visible and physical symbol of our commitment to being an open, welcoming and inclusive city.“

Rainbow Cities in Action Policy Guidelines

The successful completion of the Rainbow Cities Network project was marked by the publication of the
document "Rainbow Cities in Action, LGBTI policy Guidelines for Municipalities".

During the past two years, the cities of the Network, through their representatives, invested efforts in
researching and solving the challenges faced by the LGBTI community, and the goal of everything was to
gain understanding, raise awareness and advocate for inclusiveness and equality.
