N/M20 CORK TO LIMERICK PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Limerick City and County Council is progressing the development of the N/M20 Cork to Limerick project in partnership with Cork County Council, Cork City Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Transport. Improved accessibility between urban centres of population and their regions is identified as a major enabler for balanced regional development in the National Planning Framework and is a key element in the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 Strategy.

The N/M20 Cork to Limerick project is currently at Option Selection stage. The Option Selection process has considered and assessed a range of feasible options within the study area under the three headings - engineering, environment and economy. A number of road-based and rail-based options have been shortlisted to proceed further in the Option Selection process along with an active travel strategy (walking and cycling).

As part of this process, Limerick City and County Council is seeking feedback from the public on the shortlisted options and active travel strategy developed for the project. Due to COVID-19, Limerick City and County Council is unable to hold a public consultation event in-person within the study area. Instead, an online public consultation platform has been developed on the project website www.corklimerick.ie which will go live from 12 noon on Thursday 19th of November 2020. This online public consultation experience will provide a virtual consultation room that will allow the public and other stakeholders to view and interact with the consultation information and maps and to provide feedback on the options and active travel strategy using an online feedback form. The project website includes an online booking facility where the public and other stakeholders can schedule an online or telephone meeting with a member of the project team during the consultation period.

It is understood that online information cannot be accessed by everyone, and notwithstanding the restrictions COVID-19 present, the project team is keen to engage with people throughout the consultation period. Information can be requested, and telephone meetings can be booked by calling the project office on (061) 973730.

Submissions can be made using the online feedback form, or by email to info@corklimerick.ie, or by post addressed to N/M20 Project Office, Lissanalta House, Dooradoyle, Limerick V94 H5RR up until Friday 18th of December 2020. Feedback and submissions received through this public consultation process will be considered by the project team as part of the Option Selection process. The road and public transport options will be appraised in relation to the project objectives to identify the preferred transport option for connecting Cork and Limerick.
