21/08/2024

Roll up, roll up with all the fun of the fair - as another fun-filled ‘Open Streets’ event takes place this Saturday as part of the second North Main Street Carnival.

This   ‘Open Streets’ event ‑ where people are encouraged to leave their car at home and visit Cork city on foot, bike or by public transport ‑ is taking place this Saturday, August 24 on North Main Street, while another will take place at Autumnfest on Douglas Street on September 1 and a third at Culture Night on Friday September 20.

The carnival kicks off at midday when Lord Mayor Dan Boyle will formally open the event. The much-loved ‘Roaring Forties’ band will keep the crowds in full swing.

There will also be fire eaters, games for children, balloon twisters, facepainters, food stalls, some four legged guests from Rumleys Farm,  Punch and Judy puppet shows, magic, raffles and fun galore.

Dog owners are welcome to enter the North Main Street Carnival Dog Show while people can play ping-pong, giant games or just chill on the bean bags as people replace cars on the street.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Dan Boyle said: “ Cork City Council is delighted to see the North Main Street Carnival being run again, following on from the highly successful event in 2023, and wish the Middle Parish Community Association and North Main Street traders the best of luck.  These Open Streets events allow people to witness how streets and street life can be transformed when people and community are to the fore”.

On Friday night, there will be a fabulous evening with acclaimed comedian Jon Kenny at St. Peters on North Main Street. The show starts at 8.pm. tickets available from eventbrite.ie.
