Lord Mayor launches 2024 Community and Voluntary Awards

19/02/24

The Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Kieran McCarthy has launched the 2024 Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary awards, which this year celebrate their 21st Anniversary. The awards are coordinated by the Community Culture and Placemaking Directorate of Cork City Council.

Speaking at the launch Lord Mayor McCarthy said:

“Once again, we celebrate the rich voluntary effort, dedication, and 'building communities' ethos in our city. More than 600 organisations are engaged in the community and voluntary sector in the city. In essence, they form the heart of Cork society and in a sense its caring DNA of togetherness and solidarity. This year, awards are made in six different categories. Such categories aim to celebrate the wide-ranging activities in our communities and also serve to connect to Cork City Council's community programme and collaboration supports and vision for community life within our city.”

Media partners in this endeavour are The Echo / Echolive.ie who have been media partners since their inception in 2004. Editor of The Echo, Gráinne Mc Guinness added:

“The spirit of community and volunteering is incredibly strong in Cork and it is so important that this is recognised. The Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and groups who enrich all our lives with their selfless work. As Cork's local paper and news website, we are delighted to sponsor these awards, and to have the opportunity to highlight the tremendous work happening in Cork, day in and day out. The awards have given well-deserved recognition to many fantastic groups over the years and we look forward to shining a spotlight on more great work this year."
