Join the team from Merck and investigate the life cycle of a t-shirt in a fund and hands on way. With the help of a hand-held microscope, examine different types of synthetic and natural fabrics utilized in the fashion industry and categorize them based on their level of sustainability. Design and test a windmill that produces enough renewable energy to power a model t-shirt factory, investigate how to use tiny robot bits to build model spinning machine to spin fiber into new materials and discover how old clothing can be sorted, shredded into fibers, and re-spun into thread for new garments. They will also learn ways to minimize their own environmental impact in the fashion industry.
