Our branch are honoured in this short production to present traditional Irish music opportunities which will allow the listener to applaud, understand and respond to the political and cultural importance of the time.

Barry-Cogan

Unusually for a city-based branch of Comhaltas we have a strong tradition of storytelling. Three generations of Fleadh Cheoil winner s will narrate this production beginning with an introduction by our branch Chairperson, Mr Barry Cogan, followed by Máirtín de Cógain and finally our youngest scéalaí Sinéad Ní Rinn.

Highlights of the production are the haunting slow airs by Ger O Driscoll and Joanne Quirke, a stark reminder of the burning of Cork.  Máirtín de Cógáin’s rendition of The Boys of Kilmichael evokes very clear images of the ambush and as a contrast the reels played by Aoife , Rachel and Daniel Conroy and Tomás Walsh remind us of the resilience displayed by the people of Cork at the time.

Tá leagan den scoth den ‘Lark in the Clear air’ le cloisteáil leis an amhránaí Gemma Magner le tionlacan ó Catherine Frost agus Ger O Driscoll. Tá Craobh na Dúglaise an buíoch don staraí Chorcaí, Diarmuid O Drisceoil as a shaineolas agus an script á scríobh.
